Bangkok: Surawong Thienthong, the Minister of Tourism and Sports and Secretary-General of the Pheu Thai Party, expressed confidence in the readiness of all political parties for the upcoming election. He emphasized that returning power to the people is the optimal solution for the country.
According to Thai News Agency, Surawong announced that Pheu Thai is backing Chaikasem Nitisiri in his candidacy for prime minister. He addressed the rumors of the People’s Party voting for Mr. Anutin to become Prime Minister, indicating the need to verify official information, as an official statement from the party has yet to be released. Reports suggest that the decision might be a resolution from the People’s Party’s executive committee, but Surawong stressed the importance of confirming whether it represents a nationwide consensus. If it is indeed a resolution, it must be processed accordingly. In the event of a prime ministerial election, Pheu Thai is prepared to nominate Chaikasem as its candidate.
Surawong also discussed the ongoing process of dissolving Parliament, noting that the outcome remains uncertain. He reiterated that the Pheu Thai Party seeks the best possible solution, which involves transferring power back to the people. He clarified that this action is not a threat to coalition parties or Parliament, but rather a necessary step that must be handled with care.
The party has been in constant discussion with its members regarding the work plan and process. Surawong expressed confidence that if everything proceeds as planned, it could lead to the best resolution for the country. He highlighted the need to determine whether the resolution is truly representative of the People’s Party or just its executive committee. He deferred to the Acting Prime Minister for further clarification.
When asked about the party’s readiness for the election, Surawong affirmed that all parties are prepared and eager to continue working toward their goals.
