Surin Border Clashes Intensify as Disaster Zone Declared

Surin: Entering the fifth day of intense clashes along the Thai-Cambodian border in Surin Province, the governor of Surin Province declared the area a disaster zone due to the actions of foreign forces to ensure timely budget assistance to the people.

According to Thai News Agency, residents around the 25th Military Circle’s Wirawatyothin Camp in Surin town gradually returned to the area this morning after receiving notification from officials that the situation had been resolved after being targeted by Cambodian forces the previous afternoon. However, many residents have not yet returned, leaving some shops closed and residents of several dormitories still unaccounted for, leaving the once-bustling alleys significantly quieter. The same news also prompted Surin Hospital to announce the closure of its after-hours specialist clinic today. However, it has since announced that it will reopen tomorrow (July 29).

The clashes along the border in Surin Province are more severe today than ever before. They are at Prasat Ta Kwai and Prasat Ta Muen Thom in Phanom Dong Rak District, and at the Chong Chom permanent border crossing in Kab Choeng District. Cambodia, particularly in Phanom Dong Rak District, has been attempting to seize control of both temples. Fire has been unleashed since 3 a.m. and continued into the evening, with no significant pause. Many analysts believe Cambodia may be hoping to use the 2011 model, where, after negotiations, forces from any side are expected to remain at a particular location.

The 2nd Army Region Operations Center announced that PHL-03 missile systems have been detected in the Samrong Airport area of Oddar Meanchey Province. Cambodia is likely to use long-range weapons in deep areas. Clashes remain intense, particularly in the Chong An Ma area of Ubon Ratchathani Province, Phu Phi and Phu Makhuea in Sisaket Province, and the Ta Muen Thom and Ta Kwai temples of Surin Province. Cyber threats and infiltration by Cambodian spies are also a must.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chamnan Chuenta, Governor of Surin Province, has declared eight districts-Phanom Dong Rak, Kab Choeng, Prasat, Sangkha, Buachet, Mueang Surin, Srinarong, and Lamduan-as disaster zones due to the actions of foreign forces. This is to ensure timely assistance to the public, in accordance with Ministry of Finance regulations.

As for the atmosphere at temporary shelters, many are experiencing high levels of stress, both due to the situation and the crowded living conditions, far from home. A 95-year-old grandmother insists on sending her children and grandchildren home, saying she misses home and is concerned for her pets. However, the situation remains risky, and her children and grandchildren are unable to do so.
