Surin Hosts Unique Alms Ceremony on Elephant Back

Bangkok: Surin held an event where merit was made by offering alms on the backs of elephants for Asarnha Bucha Day and Buddhist Lent Day 2568.

According to Thai News Agency, the event saw participation from both Thai and foreign individuals, as well as tourists, who gathered to make merit on this special occasion. The ceremony took place at the plaza in front of the monument of Phraya Surin Phakdi Si Narong Changwang in Mueang District, Surin Province. A total of 64 monks and novices received alms while seated on the backs of 64 elephants, including those with long tusks.

Steel grandstands were erected around the monument, providing a vantage point for Buddhists to offer rice and dried food, in a gesture believed to bring good fortune. The elephants, with monks sitting on them, moved through the area to collect alms, creating a unique and memorable experience for all involved.
