Bangkok: Suriya Juangroongruangkit has resigned from his position as Minister of Transport. Suriya, alongside Deputy Transport Minister Manoporn Charoensri, bid farewell to Ministry officials, urging the incoming minister to prioritize the completion of the Rama II Road by the year’s end. The decision on the continuation of the 20 baht flat-rate policy remains with the new minister.
According to Thai News Agency, Suriya shared that he was appointed Minister of Transport on September 1, 2023. He expressed gratitude and pride for the cooperation received in enhancing the transportation systems across land, water, rail, and air during his tenure. He called on ministry officials to support the new minister in crucial projects, particularly the completion of Rama II Road. Suriya mentioned the recent Senate approval of the draft Common Ticket Act, which supports the 20-baht electric train fare. He emphasized that the decision to continue this initiative rests with the new minister, respecting their judgment without interference.
Ms. Manoporn highlighted her efforts over the past two years in advancing the Port Authority of Thailand Act, which is now in the Senate’s second and third readings. The new government can implement the law immediately upon passing, streamlining the Port Authority’s operations. Regarding the Land Bridge project, she urged its progression; however, uncertainty remains as the government has committed to a brief four-month term.
