Bangkok: Suthin denied leaving Pheu Thai, insisting he remains with the party and will attend the general meeting tomorrow to elect a new party leader. He said that regardless of who the new leader is, whether it’s Chulaphan or Chaturon, he’s ready to support and help push Pheu Thai back to greatness and become the government.
According to Thai News Agency, Suthin Khlangsaeng, a Maha Sarakham MP and core leader of the Pheu Thai Party, gave an interview regarding reports that he had resigned from the party and was preparing to launch a new one. He insisted that the news was untrue and believed those who revealed the story had malicious intent against him and may have intended to do something. He confirmed his previous statement that he would remain with the Pheu Thai Party, but that unless the party could continue, he would form a new party. However, as the party is still viable today, he is not considering resigning. He is focused solely on finding a way to bring Pheu Thai back into government and achieve greatness. He will attend an extraordinary Pheu Thai Party meeting tomorrow to elect a new party leader.
“No matter who the new party leader is tomorrow, I will remain with the party and accept all party decisions. Regarding the news that I’m going to form a new party, many people have invited me. Those who are about to leave have also invited me. I told them that if the party can still survive, they’ll stay. If the party can’t survive, we’ll talk about it. They might interpret it differently, but today the party can still survive. If it can’t, we might have to form one,” said Mr. Suthin.
Mr. Suthin confirmed that he has not had any problems with party members in the past, and emphasized that whatever the party resolutions are at tomorrow’s meeting, he will accept them all, as he has been with the party for so long.
As for the Pheu Thai Party’s new leader, Mr. Suthin stated that he must be someone who can coordinate people both inside and outside the party, and someone who can best carry on the party’s ideology and intentions to society. He said anyone is fine. Regarding whether a new generation leader is necessary, he said that being a new generation leader is preferable. However, any generation is fine, as long as they can coordinate each generation. The names of Mr. Chulaphan Amornvivat and Mr. Chaturon Chaisang are both suitable candidates. He added that the party’s survival depends on a larger organization, not solely on the party leader, but also on party policies and management. Crucially, whoever becomes party leader must work together for the party to thrive, and he is ready to support them. He has no problem with that.
When asked again whether he still believes that if the Pheu Thai Party fails, he will form a new party, Mr. Suthin admitted that he still thinks this is normal, but he believes the party is still viable.
