Suvarnabhumi Airport Urges Public to Avoid Releasing Sky Lanterns During Loi Krathong

Bangkok: The Department of Land Transport and Suvarnabhumi Airport (SA) have launched a campaign urging the public to refrain from releasing sky lanterns, fireworks, or laser beams during the upcoming Loi Krathong festival. The initiative aims to ensure the safety of aviation operations during the festivities.

According to Thai News Agency, Suvarnabhumi Airport is seeking cooperation from government agencies, private companies, and local residents to avoid activities that could pose risks to aircraft and airport safety on November 5, 2025. The Airports of Thailand (AOT) acknowledges the cultural significance of the festival but emphasizes that such activities could endanger aircraft and airport operations, potentially causing harm to life and property.

AOT has appealed to nearby communities and organizations to avoid actions that could affect aviation safety. If releasing sky lanterns or conducting similar activities is deemed necessary, permission must be sought from local authorities. AOT has also deployed officials to raise awareness about the potential dangers and legal consequences of such actions.

During the festival, Suvarnabhumi Airport will conduct thorough inspections of runways and taxiways to remove any foreign objects that might pose a threat to aircraft. Special attention will be given to takeoff and landing areas, while coordination with the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Co., Ltd. will ensure safe air traffic management throughout the event.
