Thai-Cambodian Border Remains Calm as Citizens Return Home

Bangkok: The Thai-Cambodian border remained calm throughout the night as people gradually returned home. Thai Khu Fa reports that the border is calm, with many areas safe and citizens gradually returning home. Meanwhile, agencies are working quickly to clear unexploded ordnance for maximum safety.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, a member of the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation Administration (TCASA), revealed that from the evening of Sunday, August 10, 2015, until this morning (Monday, August 11, 2015), there have been no clashes or violence in the Thai-Cambodian border area in seven provinces.

The Second Army Area Operations Center reported that the situation on the Thai-Cambodian border following the GBC meeting has continued to improve, with many areas safe, with people returning to their hometowns under the supervision of provincial governors and security agencies.

However, some areas still have explosives or suspicious objects remaining, which are currently being investigated and cleared for maximum safety. If the public finds an unsafe area or a suspicious object, please notify local administrative officials or police officers at 191 to coordinate with the bomb disposal unit to take action.

“The government prioritizes both maintaining peace and restoring border areas to safety from unexploded ordnance, so that citizens can return home and resume normal lives,” said Mr. Jirayu.
