Thai Government Reaffirms Commitment to Cambodian Workers’ Welfare Amidst Regional Tensions

Bangkok: The government insists on taking good care of Cambodian workers and is ready to provide humanitarian assistance. A government spokesman confirmed that the government takes good care of Cambodian workers, reiterating the Cabinet’s resolution to extend their work permits without having to stamp their border passes, while criticizing Cambodia’s use of both underground and surface processes.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, Government Spokesperson and the Committee of the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation Administration (TCAS), revealed that following the ceasefire agreement in Putrajaya, Malaysia, Cambodia has continued to violate regional peace agreements, while also using both underground and surface methods against Thailand.

Cambodia’s Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training recently released an open letter urging international buyers and consumers to boycott Thai products and services, alleging Thailand’s failure to care for Cambodian workers and persecution. Mr. Jirayu stated that the Cambodian government is taking every precaution to lie daily. Thailand has never treated Cambodians this way, but rather treats them better. For example, last week’s Cabinet resolution allowed them to continue working without having to stamp their border passes. This includes providing humanitarian and medical assistance. Employers and workers with Cambodians in various provinces also coexist with good human relations. Furthermore, Thai manufacturers have not been so nefarious as to ban Thai-made products, including clothing and other items, particularly industrial components and parts. Thai manufacturers do not have the bad habit of banning them, as they know that the millions of Cambodians who have visited and worked in Thailand are not affili
ated with the Cambodian government.

“I would like to warn the Cambodian government, through the Cambodian Ministry of Labor, to please refrain from harming your fellow Cambodians. They are suffering enough already. We should urgently promote support, relations, and reduce hatred, because it will only allow millions of working Cambodians to return to die because of the boast of having jobs. Almost a month has passed and Cambodian workers are already starving. Those working in Thailand are being well taken care of,” said Mr. Jirayu.
