Bangkok: The government confirms it will continue to protect the economy. Deputy government spokesperson reveals readiness to move forward to protect the Thai economy in the fight against the “border” conflict.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, revealed that the government, through the Ministry of Industry, has taken proactive measures to address the simultaneous security and economic challenges. The government, led by Industry Minister Ekanat Promphan, has clearly reaffirmed that protecting citizens’ lives and national sovereignty is non-negotiable. The military will fully serve as the “front line,” while the Ministry of Industry is prepared to serve as the “back line” to protect the country’s economy.
The plan addresses US tariffs, which will take effect on August 1st. Under the concept “Negotiate external conflicts, organize internal conflicts,” the Ministry of Industry has outlined a five-pronged reform plan, including managing the coin center industry and illegal factories, preventing dumping of low-quality products, campaigning to use Thai products, empowering SMEs, and modernizing to enhance transparency and reduce unnecessary costs in the Thai supply chain.
An assessment of US exports, valued at over $54 billion, can be divided into three main groups: those not directly affected, such as automotive parts, steel, and hard drives; raw materials and parts likely to be exempt from tariffs; and certain types of finished goods, such as electrical appliances, processed foods, and rubber products, which are currently under negotiation.
In addition, the Ministry of Industry has established industrial assistance collection centers in Ubon Ratchathani and Sisaket provinces to deliver essential supplies to relief centers and frontline soldiers, reflecting the government’s readiness to vigorously “fight on two fronts.”
“The government reaffirms that Thailand will not compromise its protection of its people when its sovereignty is threatened. We will continue to protect the economy responsibly and with a clear strategy, ensuring Thailand’s stability on both the front and back lines and its continued grace on the global stage,” said Ms. Sasikarn.
