Bangkok: Revealing photos of a Thai hospital severely damaged after being attacked with heavy weapons by Cambodia have been released, showcasing a significant breach of international norms.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, Government Spokesperson and the Committee of the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation Administration, strongly condemned the actions of the Cambodian government and military. The use of weapons targeting Thai medical facilities in several areas is a violation of basic humanitarian principles and international law. Mr. Jirayu shared images of the affected hospitals, including the Phanom Dong Rak 80th Anniversary Hospital and several Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospitals, highlighting the extent of the damage.
The spokesman urged the international community to monitor and condemn these actions, contrasting them with Thailand’s adherence to humanitarian principles by targeting only military objectives to avoid civilian casualties. The Prime Minister’s Office reported that, as of July 30, 2025, indiscriminate attacks have resulted in 15 civilian deaths in Ubon Ratchathani and Sisaket provinces, with 12 seriously injured and 11 still hospitalized. Thirteen patients have been discharged.
Eleven hospitals have been forced to close, including facilities in Namkhun, Nam Yuen, and Na Chaluai, among others. Nine hospitals remain partially closed, operating only emergency rooms. Additionally, 144 subdistrict health promotion hospitals have been affected, with 140 closed and four partially operational. Four hospitals sustained direct damage and are under assessment for potential long-term restoration.
The government has responded by deploying 1,168 special operations teams, with 494 already in affected areas. Mental health care teams are assisting over 21,430 people in temporary shelters. Mr. Jirayu emphasized Thailand’s commitment to aiding its citizens and called for media and international organizations to hold the Cambodian government accountable. He reaffirmed Thailand’s dedication to a peaceful resolution within international law and noted that evidence is being collected to present to the global community.
