Thai Military Denounces Cambodian Ceasefire Claims as Deceptive

Bangkok: The Thai military has criticized the Cambodian Ministry of Defence’s spokesman for claiming a ceasefire since midnight, describing it as self-deception and a false image. The army urged the international community not to be misled by this illusion and emphasized the necessity for Thailand to protect its sovereignty and citizens.

According to Thai News Agency, Colonel Chatrapee Poonsri, deputy spokesperson for the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters, expressed that the Thai military rejects the assertion made by Lieutenant General Malee Socheata, spokesperson for the Cambodian Ministry of Defense. The claim that “there were no gunshots along the border” and that a complete ceasefire had been reached since midnight on July 28, 2025, was dismissed by the Thai military.

Contrary to these claims, Cambodia has allegedly continued to fire weapons into Thai territory at multiple locations following the ceasefire deadline. Thailand maintains that it possesses clear evidence of these violations, despite a recent joint agreement signed by the two leaders.

Lt. Gen. Malee Sojiata is accused of deceiving not only the Cambodian people but also herself with a fabricated narrative. This behavior is seen as an attempt to distort the truth and deflect attention from her responsibilities.

The Royal Thai Army calls on Lt. Gen. Malee Sojiata to halt her deceptive actions, which they believe undermine trust and the fundamental principles of international cooperation. They stress that the international community should not let “verbal illusions” obscure reality.

The Royal Thai Army asserts that it has never initiated violence and remains committed to safeguarding national sovereignty and the safety of its citizens through legitimate measures, in alignment with international law.
