Thai Woman’s Body Retrieved from Cambodia as Family Suspects Circumstances of Death

Poipet: The body of a Thai woman, Ms. Kanokwan, who fell from a building in Poipet, Cambodia, has been retrieved by the Aranyaprathet Rescue Team for return to Thailand. It is suspected that she was suffering from accumulated depression, possibly linked to the recent loss of her boyfriend.

According to Thai News Agency, relatives authorized the rescue team to bring the body back from Cambodia. This morning, officials and rescue workers gathered at the Khlong Luek border checkpoint in Aranyaprathet District, Sa Kaeo Province, to receive the body of the 27-year-old Khon Kaen resident. She had fallen from the third floor of a building on the Cambodian side of the border.

Mr. Bird, representing the Coordination Center for Assistance to Thais Abroad, disclosed that the deceased’s family will decide whether to conduct funeral rites at a temple in Thailand or choose another form of remembrance. Ms. Kanokwan had been working as a public relations officer in Cambodia since the border crossing’s opening and had not returned to Thailand after the border closure.

Investigation into the cause of death revealed that she had recently lost her boyfriend, which might have led to accumulated depression affecting her mental health and potential involvement with drugs. However, her family harbors doubts about the circumstances of her fall and plans to request further examination of the body before proceeding with their decisions.

Addressing rumors of her involvement in a stock trading scheme and an 18 million baht debt, Mr. Bird clarified that the deceased was not directly involved in any fraudulent activity. She had borrowed money from individuals in a network as a “gift,” and her appearance might have led to misunderstandings.
