Bangkok: The First Army Region Commander and the Second Army Region Commander of Thailand have convened with Cambodian regional commanders to discuss the terms and implications of a newly established ceasefire agreement. This agreement came into effect at midnight, marking a significant step towards de-escalation between the two nations.
According to Thai News Agency, Maj. Gen. Wanchana Sawasdee, who serves as the Director of the Office of Security Coordination with the ISOC, disclosed that the military leaders conducted a small, informal meeting at 8:00 PM. This gathering aimed to evaluate the situation in anticipation of the ceasefire, which was brokered through negotiations involving Thailand, Cambodia, and Malaysia. The meeting also served as a preparatory step for the subsequent formal talks between the commanders.
In a preceding statement, Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, announced that the commanders from Thailand’s 1st and 2nd Army Regions were scheduled to meet with their counterparts from Cambodia’s 4th and 5th Regions at 7:00 AM on July 29th. This meeting is crucial for laying the groundwork for sustained peace and cooperation between the neighboring countries.
