Bangkok: “Maris” insists that Thailand is not at a disadvantage compared to Cambodia in the international arena. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Maris, maintains that Thailand is not complacent about fake news from Cambodia and is actively addressing all related issues.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Maris Sngiampong, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized that Thailand is not at a disadvantage in its dealings with Cambodia, pointing out that actions are aligned within the framework of the United Nations. Thailand has consistently committed to peaceful means, international law, and the ASEAN Charter. While Cambodia attempted to escalate the issue to the United Nations Security Council, no resolution was passed. The matter was deemed suitable for bilateral negotiations, not for UN Security Council intervention. Despite attempts by Cambodia to distort the situation in various forums, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively deploying diplomatic measures to clarify Thailand’s position to both bilateral and international entities.
Mr. Maris highlighted a meeting with the US Ambassador to Thailand, where discussions focused on a ceasefire agreement, emphasizing Cambodia’s need for sincerity. He criticized Cambodia for violating the agreement and spreading fake news, asserting that Thailand has exercised restraint. The Foreign Minister has communicated with representatives from the US, China, and Malaysia to affirm the ceasefire agreement reached in Malaysia.
Regarding the detained Cambodian soldiers, Mr. Maris confirmed they are being treated according to the Geneva Conventions. They were arrested for violating Thai sovereignty and are being cared for under the United Nations Charter. Their release will depend on assurances that they will not pose further threats. The Foreign Minister stressed Thailand’s commitment to upholding international legitimacy and law.
Mr. Maris announced plans to allow foreign military attaches to observe the border situation, providing evidence of Cambodia’s violations of sovereignty and international agreements. The Ministry will also involve foreign media to ensure accurate reporting. He assured that the safety of all personnel involved is a priority.
The Foreign Minister reiterated that current tensions do not burden the citizens of either country, advocating for good faith measures. He affirmed Thailand’s strength in international politics, military operations, and negotiations, emphasizing the importance of countering misinformation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to respond to Cambodia’s information tactics, reinforcing Thailand’s adherence to UN resolutions and international law.
Addressing criticisms of the Ministry’s proactivity, Mr. Maris emphasized the importance of safety and reliable information. He highlighted Thailand’s commitment to truth and responsibility, contrasting it with Cambodia’s alleged misinformation. He concluded by affirming Thailand’s stable international image, which has facilitated ceasefire achievements and negotiations.
