Thailand Braces for Heavy Rain and Potential Flooding

Bangkok: Upper Thailand is facing a significant weather challenge with heavy rain expected in several areas, according to the Meteorological Department. The northern and northeastern regions are particularly at risk, with warnings of very heavy rain that could result in flash floods and mudslides.

According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy rain over the next 24 hours in specific provinces such as Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, and others in the North and Northeast. The monsoon trough passing over northern Thailand, combined with a low-pressure area over northern Vietnam, is contributing to these adverse weather conditions. Residents are urged to remain vigilant, especially in areas prone to forest runoff and river overflows.

In addition to the rain, the sea conditions are also of concern. The upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand are experiencing moderate waves, with heights reaching up to 2 meters, and even higher in areas with thunderstorms. Sailors are cautioned to avoid these areas during storms.

The weather forecast for the northern region predicts thunderstorms in 70 percent of the area, with temperatures ranging from 23 to 33 degrees Celsius. The northeastern region is also expected to encounter similar conditions, with thunderstorms affecting 70 percent of the area and temperatures between 23 to 34 degrees Celsius.

Central, eastern, and southern regions are not exempt from the rain, with thunderstorms predicted in various percentages across these areas. The central region, including provinces like Lop Buri and Kanchanaburi, will see thunderstorms in 60 percent of the area. Meanwhile, Bangkok and its surrounding areas can expect a 60 percent chance of rain and some heavy downpours.

This weather pattern underscores the need for caution and preparedness among residents, particularly those living in vulnerable areas.
