Thailand Clinches 36th World Sepak Takraw Championship Title

Songkhla: The Thai national men’s sepak takraw team emerged victorious at the 36th world championship, showcasing their dominance in the sport. Held at the 2025 Takraw World Championship, the 38th King’s Cup, this prestigious event took place at the Central Hat Yai Shopping Mall in Songkhla Province, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of 1,600 sports fans who filled the stadium to capacity.

According to Thai News Agency, the championship’s highlight was the fierce competition between Thailand’s national team, donning red, and their long-standing rivals, Malaysia. Thailand, a 35-time champion, fielded Team A with players Pornthep Tinbangbon, Mrukin Phanmakorn, and Saenkrai Daoruang, who displayed remarkable skill and coordination. They secured a 2-0 set victory with identical scores of 15-12, taking an early lead in the championship.

In the subsequent match, Thailand’s Team B featured players Siriwat Sakha, Thaweesak Thongsai, and Ratchan Wiphan. Malaysia countered with their skilled server, Zahir Rosdy, leading to a thrilling contest. Both teams alternated in scoring, but the Thai players maintained their composure, ultimately securing another 2-0 set win with scores of 17-16 and 15-4.

The final competition results saw Thailand defeating Malaysia 2-0, thereby claiming the world championship title and the prestigious 36th Royal Trophy.
