Bangkok: Thailand has strongly refuted allegations suggesting the use of chemical weapons by its forces, maintaining its commitment to the Chemical Weapons Convention. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that such news is a distortion of facts, aimed at undermining Thailand’s international standing.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Nikorndej Plankul, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed the reports, emphasizing that the allegations are devoid of empirical evidence. He reiterated Thailand’s unwavering adherence to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and its condemnation of chemical weapons use under any circumstances. Thailand has consistently supported disarmament and the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction since its accession to the CWC in 2003. The nation has shown its commitment through active cooperation with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and other signatories of the Convention.
The Ministry emphasized that these allegations are baseless, reflecting a systematic attempt to misrepresent facts on the ground and diminish Thailand’s credibility in the eyes of the international community.
