Thailand Responds to Cambodia’s Ceasefire Violations with Global Communication Efforts

Bangkok: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively disseminating information worldwide concerning Cambodia’s recent ceasefire violations.

According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry has utilized embassies and consulates-general to communicate globally after Cambodia breached the ceasefire agreement.

Ms. Maratee Nalita Andamo, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information and Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, outlined the actions taken during a meeting of the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation Administration Center (CBSA). Thailand has formally addressed the issue by sending a letter to the Malaysian Foreign Minister, the ASEAN Chair, as well as to observer countries China and the United States, who were involved in the ceasefire negotiations in Malaysia. The letter, which informed Cambodia of its ceasefire violations on July 29th, was also directly sent to Cambodia.

Following the latest violation in Phu Makhuea last night, the Royal Thai Army provided an official clarification, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement urging Cambodia to cease all violations and adhere strictly to the agreement. The Ministry will also supply additional information regarding affected hospitals, supplementing a protest letter sent to the International Committee of the Red Cross, as another Thai soldier has succumbed to injuries.

Ms. Maratee emphasized the proactive role of Thai embassies and consulates-general worldwide in elucidating the situation on the Thai-Cambodian border. Embassies are actively participating in clarifying facts and ensuring that governments, organizations, and relevant agencies receive accurate information about Thailand’s peaceful resolution stance and its commitment to negotiations with Cambodia based on sincerity and good faith.

She also highlighted Thailand’s international diplomatic efforts, mentioning four Permanent Missions to the United Nations, a Permanent Mission to ASEAN, and several embassies responsible for multilateral frameworks and international organizations. These missions aim to clarify Thailand’s position globally, uphold its constructive role, and demonstrate commitment to international obligations.
