According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Atthakorn Sirilathayakorn, Minister of Tourism and Sports, revealed after the Bureau of the Royal Household announced the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, that this event is a great loss for the Thai people and will have a profound impact on the public’s spirit, including Thai athletes.
“The SEA Games, scheduled for December, must proceed in accordance with established standards. Following the Cabinet’s resolution to reduce and cancel entertainment activities during this period, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports will adjust the format of the opening and closing ceremonies to be more appropriate,” said Mr. Atthakorn.
The Minister of Tourism and Sports confirmed that current sporting events, such as the Thai League football, will not be cancelled or postponed. However, the format of the events will be adjusted to include a process for expressing condolences and reduce entertainment-related activities or elements to reflect the current situation and suitability.
