Bangkok: The Ministry of Energy is moving forward with the appointment of a new PDP committee to develop a clean, transparent, and fair energy plan for the future of Thai people. Ms. Sasikan Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, revealed that the government, through the Ministry of Energy, under the supervision of Mr. Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, is preparing to appoint a committee to draft a new Power Development Plan (PDP) to enhance Thailand’s energy management in line with the economic context, technology, and future energy demand of the public, particularly from the public sector and renewable energy.
According to Thai News Agency, the government prioritizes the development of a PDP that is transparent, independent, and open to feedback from all sectors. This is particularly evident from the public consultation on the draft PDP 2024 in June, which included several key recommendations, including the appropriate share of renewable energy, the readiness of the electricity grid, future economic growth and electricity demand, and the urgency of incorporating new energy technologies such as SMR into the system.
“This new PDP will truly reflect the voice of the people, addressing issues such as access to clean energy, fair prices, and opportunities for community-based electricity generation. This will help elevate the grassroots economy while ensuring energy security,” said Ms. Sasikarn.
Mr. Pirapan also clarified at the House of Representatives meeting on July 31, 2025, the plan to promote electricity generation from the public sector and solar power. He confirmed that the new PDP will prioritize the use of clean energy and encourage citizens to use agricultural waste to generate electricity, which will help reduce energy costs and generate local income.
The goal is also to promote small community power plants, enabling citizens to play a real role in energy production and become active participants in driving the country’s future energy economy. The new PDP is expected to be completed by the end of this year, marking a significant milestone in elevating Thailand’s energy system.
“The government is clearly committed to ensuring energy security and seriously addressing the issue of high electricity costs. I would like to assure the public that the government will proceed transparently at every step to ensure the success of this energy reform and the utmost benefit of all Thai people,” said Ms. Sasikarn.
