Bangkok: Lt. Col. Thammanat Prompao, an MP for Phayao and advisor to the Kla Tham Party, has denied speculation that he is vying for the position of Minister of Defense. Rumors had circulated about his potential appointment, but Thammanat clarified that no discussions have taken place regarding this matter as he visited the Bhumjaithai Party headquarters for a meeting with its leader, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul.
According to Thai News Agency, Thammanat, who has previously served as a minister, expressed that he is not concerned about his qualifications for any ministerial role. He emphasized that political positions should not be competed over and stated that he has no intention of challenging Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan for the Defense Ministry seat. Instead, he highlighted the importance of following party systems and decisions, noting that party leaders and secretaries must be given priority in appointments.
During his visit, Thammanat was accompanied by his wife, Ms. Thanaporn Sriwirat, and enjoyed a coffee break at a nearby cafe. He reiterated that his visit was primarily personal, aimed at spending time with his wife, rather than discussing ministerial roles. Despite ongoing rumors, he refrained from confirming any new positions within the government and underscored his commitment to the party’s grassroots focus, particularly in supporting farmers.
Thammanat’s remarks also addressed his potential to work with other political leaders, including Gen. Prawit, by emphasizing the necessity for politicians to collaborate effectively, regardless of personal differences. He reassured the public that the Kla Tham Party is committed to improving the lives of people at the grassroots level and mentioned that the Ministry of Education might be allocated to the party, pending royal approval.
