“Thanakorn” criticizes the people for proposing 7 extreme packages.

Thanakorn” criticizes the Prachachon Party for proposing 7 packages to the max, aiming to amend the entire constitution and section by section, seeing it as claiming democracy is obsessed with politics and not caring about the suffering of the people.

On September 29, 2024, Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, former Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office, MP for the party list, and deputy leader of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, gave an interview after the Prachachon Party proposed 7 packages to amend the entire constitution along with amending each section. He said that he was also suspicious of the performance of the opposition party, such as the Prachachon Party, as many others suspected. Was it true that they were elected as representatives to the parliament to solve the people’s hardships and economic problems? Or did they only hope to amend the constitution for their own political party? Because from what he saw of the Prachachon Party’s proposals of laws and various approaches in the past, they did not fo
cus on truly solving the people’s problems in terms of living conditions and quality of life. They focused only on solving political problems, amending the constitution, reforming institutions, reforming the military, claiming that the Constitutional Court, the National Anti-Corruption Commission, and independent organizations had too much power, and claiming that the 2017 constitution was the result of a coup and was not democratic. He only recited a few words like this. Therefore, many parties, both academics and politicians, questioned what the Prachachon Party’s real purpose in working in politics was.

In this regard, I believe that the three branches of power, namely the legislature, the executive and the judiciary, should have the power to monitor and check each other to balance each other, especially the power of the judiciary, which should be retained to check politicians and civil servants who are immoral, unethical, dishonest and corrupt. This is considered appropriate and correct according to the
2017 anti-corruption constitution that was drafted to prevent corruption. Therefore, I would like to object if the Prachachon Party or any other party proposes to amend and reduce the power of independent organizations because it will open the way for bad politicians to come in and cheat the national budget to benefit their own associates.

When asked that the People’s Party would put the amendment of each article on the issue of politicians’ ethics on hold, Mr. Thanakorn said that putting it on hold did not mean that the draft proposed to the parliament would be dropped or withdrawn. It may be because society heavily criticized them for wanting to amend the law for their own benefit, or they may be afraid of breaking the law themselves. Because amending the issue of politicians’ ethics would be considered a clear way to benefit themselves. In this regard, the coalition parties, especially the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, have clearly announced their position that they will oppose the amendment of the constitu
tion because they want to support good people to govern the country and not lower the ethical standards of those who will become leaders in the administration of the country.

‘Society questions what the People’s Party is doing. It keeps thinking about solving political problems, amending the constitution, and is stuck in the old mindset of eliminating the consequences of the NCPO’s coup. It only mentions democracy, without giving importance to solving the problems of suffering, poverty, economic problems, and natural disasters that our people are currently experiencing. But it still cannot move beyond the NCPO’s desire to cancel the 20-year national strategy, which the previous government set as a framework for sustainable national development, which was already considered good. Therefore, the proposal of the 7 packages by the People’s Party is seen as 7 extreme, extreme packages aimed at doing things for the political party, doing things for themselves, and not thinking about the people who are truly suffer
ing,’ Thanakorn pointed out.
