Thanakorn Urges Political Unity to Address National Crisis

Bangkok: “Thanakorn” has called on the government and opposition parties to set aside their political differences and focus on building unity to address the nation’s ongoing crisis.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, a former Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office and Deputy Leader of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, emphasized the necessity of maintaining the budget for military defense. He argued that enhancing the Thai military’s capabilities is crucial for protecting national sovereignty, especially following recent unrest along the Thai-Cambodian border. These disturbances in the provinces of Ubon Ratchathani, Buriram, Surin, and Si Sa Ket have resulted in injuries and fatalities among military personnel and civilians alike. Mr. Thanakorn affirmed his support for the fiscal year 2026 budget considerations by the Subcommittee on ICT Equipment and Revolving Funds, led by Mr. Sarawut Neungjamnong of the Pheu Thai Party. The subcommittee believes that sustaining the budget for purchasing military weapons is essential for ensuring that the armed forces are equipped to safeguard the nation effectively.

Mr. Thanakorn also urged all political parties to pause their political activities, citing the country’s numerous challenges, such as border unrest, flooding in various provinces, domestic economic issues, and trade barriers from the United States. He encouraged all parties to collaborate, stating, “I ask all parties to unite to help the country get through these crises. Let’s stop the conflicts, stop attacking and playing political games, turn to find solutions together, join with our fellow Thai citizens, help make our country strong. I believe that if all parties help each other, we will win every battle, both the military and the economic battlefield.”
