Thanaporn Disassociates Himself from Government Links Amidst National Defense College Controversy

Bangkok: Thanaporn Sriyakul, Director of the Institute of Political and Policy Analysis, has publicly denied any connections between his recent visit to the Bhumjaithai Party and the Cabinet’s decision to remove him from the National Defense College (NDC) 2025 student program. He clarified that the issues surrounding the NDC are not related to the current government and urged red-shirt supporters to refrain from linking him to governmental activities.

According to Thai News Agency, Thanaporn intends to file a petition with the Administrative Court next week to seek a postponement of the order removing his name from the NDC list. He stated his commitment to following legal procedures and emphasized that he would not engage in personal discussions on the matter. Thanaporn also addressed the lawsuit filed by Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai on behalf of the Prime Minister, declaring there are no secret deals involved.

Thanaporn explained his interest in studying at the National Defense College, citing its valuable security perspective, especially in light of the current situation in Thailand and Cambodia. He considers the opportunity to exchange views with the security sector crucial and beneficial. Despite the controversy, he underscored that his nomination to the NDCC indicates a willingness to engage in discussions with him.

In his statement, Thanaporn reiterated that the entire process is independent of any government involvement and stressed that red-shirt supporters should not be implicated in the matter. He mentioned that during his conversation with Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Deputy Leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, no discussions related to the National Defense College occurred, further distancing the current situation from political affiliations.
