Thanyaburi District Chief and Officers Transferred Following Pub Raid

Pathum thani: The Thanyaburi District Chief and five officers from the Pratunam Chulalongkorn University Police Station have been transferred in the aftermath of a significant pub raid conducted under Operation “ZERO DRUG.”

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, acting as Prime Minister, Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, revealed details of the eight-month, eight-action initiative, which led to a raid by special operations forces from the Department of Provincial Administration. The operation targeted a pub in the Rangsit area of Thanyaburi District, Pathum Thani Province, uncovering 179 underage visitors and positive urine tests. As a consequence, the officers responsible for the area will face transfer, with further announcements expected from the National Police Chief.

Police regulations dictate that if arrests occur in the area, the officers must be held accountable and transferred to the Provincial Police Region 1 headquarters. The Ministry of the Interior is investigating whether administrative authorities conducted the arrest. A lack of notification will result in the transfer being handled by administrative authorities.

Mr. Phumtham expressed uncertainty regarding whether the operation was a joint effort between administrative and police forces. He clarified that, based on past practices, if it were a joint operation, the officers might avoid transfer. However, he emphasized that those involved would face prosecution in accordance with regulations. He mentioned previous indications that the “Five Tigers” and district chiefs in the area would be transferred as per policy directives.

Regarding the district chief’s potential assignment to the Department of Provincial Administration, Mr. Phumtham stated he would await official orders. However, he indicated a willingness to involve the district chief in problem-solving efforts.
