There are still high schoolers who cannot afford college: ministry

To this day, there are high school graduates who cannot pursue higher education due to the high cost involved, an official from the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry has said.

“Education cost has become one of the challenges for people who wish to enter college,” Head of the Financing Service Center of the ministry Abdul Kahar noted here on Thursday.

“However, the prevalence of university scholarship for bachelor’s degree has become their hope to continue formal education,” he said.

There are still high school graduates who possess academic talent, but hesitate to choose the best university, especially if the university is located in a capital city, as that would prove costly, he added.

“Which is why, the KIP-K (Indonesia Smart Cards-College) policy has been adjusted with the tuition fee and students’ living cost,” he explained.

“This is where the state steps in to improve the quality of education service, especially college,” he said.

The government supports all students that have the skills to choose the best college that they wish for, Kahar said.

To this end, the ministry is encouraging students with academic talent to pursue university education by utilizing the KIP-K, he added.
