“Thirat” Reveals Public Shelter Plans Ahead of Storm Wipha

Government house: Ms. Thirat Rattanawanich, Deputy Minister of Interior, has disclosed the establishment of a public shelter center in anticipation of Storm Wipha. The Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation is already present in the area, poised to manage the impacts of the impending storm. Residents in need of assistance can reach out via a 24-hour hotline.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Thirat has been monitoring the storm situation for the past week, issuing warning messages to inform and prepare communities. In the northern region, resources such as heavy machinery, water pumps, and personnel are being deployed to high-risk zones. Shelters have been set up for immediate access by those in vulnerable areas. Provinces have been allocated budgets for preventive measures, allowing governors to act swiftly.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has established a 24-hour operational war room. Residents affected by the storm or in need of assistance can contact the hotline at 1784. The Director-General is on-site to maintain close coordination and expedite response efforts.

Ms. Thirat mentioned that several provinces are expected to be impacted, as previously announced. Areas have experienced rapid water flow conditions, but coordination efforts have prevented damage thus far. The preparedness of the local population is an integral part of the response strategy.
