Ubon ratchathani: Thirat criticized the Ubon Ratchathani governor for his unusually slow disbursement of budget funds, emphasizing the greater damage in comparison to neighboring provinces and highlighting his failure to foster public understanding.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Teerarat Samretwanit, Deputy Minister of Interior, addressed the governor’s transfer over the disbursement of funds intended to assist residents affected by the Thai-Cambodian border clashes. She noted that a meeting was held to clarify the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM)’s decision. Each province, in addition to receiving a 100 million baht advance payment, will also obtain donations and supplies to ensure proper allocation for evacuees. She stressed the need to consider reasonableness given the differences between provinces.
Ms. Thirat confirmed discussions with the Comptroller General’s Department and relevant agencies since July 29th, focusing on operational guidelines and identifying urgent matters or those requiring regulatory waivers. This process was immediately implemented, as everyone understood the situation’s gravity. She acknowledged an apparent discrepancy and classified it as an irregularity to be addressed. Despite the necessity of delays, she urged neighboring provinces to consider their situations, as they have suffered more casualties and damage.
Regarding the local government’s claim that the budget could be used only for specific areas, Ms. Thirat assured that there would be no issues, as funds would be examined from their origins through both departure and return journeys in conflict and evacuation areas.
When questioned why the entire province had not been declared a disaster zone, as in Surin Province, Ms. Thirat suggested calculations might have been based on actual evacuation areas, with details needing thorough investigation. She concluded that irregularities are evident, and explanations have failed to clarify the situation to the public, prompting the need for action.
