TMII’s provincial pavilions to be refurbished as public spaces: KSP

Provincial pavilions in the Beautiful Indonesia in Miniature Park (TMII), East Jakarta, are readied to serve as public spaces as major refurbishment of the tourist attraction is ongoing, the Presidential Staff Office (KSP RI) stated.

“There will be significant changes (made to TMII facilities) to cater to the current needs. For instance, pavilions would be provided for the youth and will be a public space for the youth — that will be the policy outline,” Chief of KSP RI Moeldoko stated here, Monday.

The decision to reinvigorate provincial pavilions as public spaces for the youth aligns with President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi’s) instruction, he remarked.

Moeldoko said the president emphasized that TMII should no longer be managed through conventional means after the completion of major refurbishment but instead should be managed in accordance with the youth’s needs.

Earlier, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian called on provincial leaders to manage the refurbishment of respective pavilions in TMII.

Of all the provincial pavilions in the tourism attraction, minor damages occurred in some 19 pavilions — despite the damage not compromising the pavilions’ structural integrity — while other pavilions have incurred moderate damages, he remarked.

Karnavian also pointed out that newer provinces, such as North Kalimantan, still have no pavilion representing the province in TMII.

The minister revealed that the total budget required to renovate all provincial pavilions reached Rp45-50 billion (US$3.01-3.35 million). The renovation funding can be procured from the respective province’s regional budget or CSR activities from private companies, he added.

Moreover, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said that the renovation was also conducted for preparations for the Indonesian presidency at the G20 Summit in November 2022.

“According to the plan, this place will be used for (serving) dinner at the G20 event. However, that is not the main goal. (The renovation) was to improve services for the tourism destination instead,” Hadimuljono stated.
