Jakarta Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno confirmed the readiness of Toba District, North Sumatra, to host the Formula 1 Powerboat World Championship (F1H2O) in February 2023.

“Today, we ensure that the F1H2O implementation is ready to go. On February 24-26, 2022, we will hold an F1 water race, with a boat speed of more than 300 kilometers per hour, and this will be a great attraction for Lake Toba as a super-priority destination,” Uno noted here on Saturday.

While reviewing the readiness of infrastructure at the Mulia Raja Napitupulu Port, Lake Toba, North Sumatra, he said the port will function as a media center, trauma center, office area for the F1H20 committee, and hospitality suite for VVIP guests.

“We prepare this, and hopefully, 25 thousand visitors will get an extraordinary experience and the economic impact would not only be felt by the Balige communities but also the entire tourism and creative economy ecosystem in eight districts in North Sumatra,” the minister explained.

According to Uno, several foreign tourists will be coming to attend the F1H20.

The number of visitors is projected to grow every year since F1H2O is an annual event.

Toba District Head Poltak Sitorus stated that F1H2O will bring economic growth and increase development in the Lake Toba area.

“The economic benefits, especially in this region, will have a tremendous impact on the local economy and the growth of development,” he said.

Earlier, Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali said Lake Toba, North Sumatra, became the topic of discussion of several countries after being selected as one of the venues for F1H2O.

“Lake Toba suddenly became a (topic of) discussion and news in many countries. Formula 1 Powerboat racing fans are certainly starting to find information about Lake Toba. They will definitely be curious about Lake Toba, how to get there, how to stay there, the food, the facilities, and others,” Amali stated.
