Tomorrow, the 1st DEWG-G20 will be opened by the Minister of Communication and Information from West Lombok

West Lombok, Kominfo – The 1st Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) meeting in the series of the G20 Indonesia Presidency will start tomorrow, Tuesday (29/03/2022). Minister of Communications and Informatics Johnny G. Plate is scheduled to open the DEWG Forum which will be a hybrid for two days.

The Director of Information Empowerment at the Directorate General of Information Applications at the Ministry of Communications and Informatics, Bonie Pudjianto, explained that the first DEWG meeting which was attended by delegates from G20 member countries would virtually be attended by the Minister of Communication and Information. “The Minister of Communication and Informatics will make a working visit to NTB tomorrow. The Minister came to open and attend the 1st DEWG meeting which was held in a hybrid manner,” he said after attending the first Digital Economy Working Group Implementation Coordination Meeting at Aruna Hotel Senggigi, West Lombok, Tuesday (28/03/2022).

The 1st DEWG session will discuss the issue of Post Covid-19 Recovery and Connectivity and Digital Skills and Digital Literacy on the first day. The issue of Cross-Border Data Flow and Data Free-Flow with Trust and the overall conclusion will be discussed on the second day.

“After the opening, the Chair of the DEWG, namely the Secretary General of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Mira Tayyiba. Next, the Italian and Indian Troika Members delivered Remarks and Greetings,” he said.

On the first day, Minister Johnny will give a statement to media workers through a press conference. According to Director Bonie, the agenda for the next session will be filled with an introduction to the agenda and procedures by the Alternate Chair or Substitute Chairperson, Dedy Permadi. “And later it will be continued with discussions for each issue,” he said.

The implementation of the 1st DEWG Session this time will be attended by all participants (member countries) who are members of the Group of Twenty (G20), plus invited guest countries (Invite Countries), and international organizations involved in DEWG.

Support for Telecommunication Operators

Furthermore, the Director of Information Empowerment, Directorate General of Aptika, Ministry of Communication and Informatics stated that telecommunications operators support the smooth running of the event by providing adequate bandwidth capacity.

“Today we carried out various room readiness checks and it seems that they have started to wake up well, hopefully tonight everything will be finished and tomorrow morning a network running test will be carried out at 12 noon with all member countries. We are doing a connectivity test, because at the first DEWG we are currently still using the online system. So, everything will depend on infrastructure,” he explained.

According to Director Bonie, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics appreciates the support for the smooth running of this 1st DEWG event. “We thank you for the support from mobile operators. They provide increased capacity over existing 4G, even 5G. Hopefully all of this will make it easier to organize the first DEWG,” he said.
