Tourism Malaysia bags tourism award in Indonesia

JAKARTA, Tourism Malaysia has won the National Tourism Organisation of The Year for the third time in a row at the 13th Indonesia Travel and Tourism Awards (ITTA) 2022/2023.

ITTA, organised by the ITTA Foundation, honours travel agencies, hotels, hospitality investors and foreign tourism boards for their efforts in the growth and development of Indonesian tourism.

The award was presented to Tourism Malaysia Jakarta director Junus Suhid, here last night.

Its director-general Zainuddin Abdul Wahab welcomed the recognition and acknowledged the award as a tribute to its role and participation in promotion via the mainstream and social media platform, and engagement with Indonesian industry players and media.

In a statement, he said the agency would further restore the confidence of the industry players to continue promoting and selling Malaysia’s attractions and tourism products.

For the Indonesian market, Tourism Malaysia Jakarta is optimistic about receiving over one million Indonesian tourists visiting Malaysia this year since its international border reopening on April 1, he said.

Indonesia’s Tourism Minister Sandiaga Uno was present at the award ceremony.

Junus said his team has been doing the collaboration with the Indonesian travel fraternity, including travel agents, tour operators, and authorities in Jayapura, Manado, and Pontianak to promote two-way tourism promotion.

“Even though Malaysia has received a lot of tourists to visit Malaysia in Peninsular and Sarawak, we would also like to see Malaysians visit destinations in Indonesia,” he said.

At the event, WSF Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd, a company based in Malaysia also won the Indonesia Leading International Destination Management Company (DMC) for the Malaysia Market.
