Tourist arrivals in February climbed 21.91 percent to 18,500: BPS

Foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia via main entry points in February 2022 climbed 21.91 percent to 18,500 from January 2022 and increased 151.98 percent from the corresponding period in 2021, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) stated.

“The number of tourist arrivals in February 2022 rose 21.91 percent as compared to January 2022 and swelled 151.98 percent as compared to the same period 2021,” BPS Chief Margo Yuwono noted during an online press conference in Jakarta on Friday.

Cumulatively, the number of tourist arrivals in the first two months of 2022 reached 33,593, he stated.

The figure represented a 259.59-percent surge as compared to the same period last year when it was recorded at 9,342, he added.

However, the increase was far below the pre-COVID-19 pandemic level when Indonesia received 1.8 million tourists in January and February 2020, he stated.

“Despite the increase in 2022, it is still limited. Indeed, tourism still experiences disruption,” he noted.

Yuwono stated that tourist arrivals in February 2022 was based on data recorded at the country’s main entry points, while the BPS had yet to receive data on the number of foreign tourists visiting the country through border check points.
