Lampang: A Korean-Thai tourist group was successfully located after being lost in the forest on Doi Khun Tan, following a four-hour search operation by local authorities. A video call played a crucial role in guiding them to safety.
According to Thai News Agency, Hang Chat Police Station officers received a report from local villagers seeking help for a Korean man, a Thai woman, and a Thai child who had become separated from their friends in the Doi Khun Tan mountain range, located in Wiang Tan Subdistrict, Hang Chat District. The incident occurred last evening and prompted an immediate response.
The tourists were part of a larger group of more than 20 individuals who had traveled by train from Chiang Mai Province, disembarking at Ban Mae Tan Noi Railway Station. They intended to trek to various locations within Don Khun Tan National Park, covering a distance of approximately 6-7 kilometers along the Lam Huai Mae Tan Noi Reservoir. In the evening, the separated group contacted authorities, indicating they had lost their way.
Authorities coordinated a search operation, mobilizing a team to traverse the Mae Tan Noi reservoir ridge. Video contact with the missing individuals was established, although their precise location remained unclear. Despite the challenges, the search continued until nearly 10:00 PM when the search team successfully located the tourists. The individuals were found cold from prolonged exposure to rain but were safely brought back, ensuring their wellbeing and providing relief to all involved.
