Tropical Storm Kajiki Set to Impact Northern Vietnam and Thailand

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department announced this morning that a depression in the upper South China Sea has intensified into Tropical Storm Kajiki. It is expected to make landfall in northern Vietnam between August 25 and 26, impacting Thailand from tomorrow (August 24).

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Somkuan Tonjan, Director of the Meteorological Department’s Weather Forecasting Division, revealed that Tropical Storm “Kajiki” is expected to make landfall in northern Vietnam around August 25-26, before moving into Laos and northeastern Thailand. After making landfall in Vietnam, the tropical storm is expected to weaken. As it enters northeastern Thailand, it will become a low-pressure area, but will still bring increased rainfall to many areas. The storm’s track is similar to that of Tropical Storm Wipha, which occurred earlier.

Due to the influence of Typhoon Kajiki and the strengthening southwest monsoon, Thailand will experience increased rainfall from August 24-27, 2025. Heavy to very heavy rainfall will occur in some areas, covering several regions, including the upper northeastern region, the northern region, the central region, the eastern region, the western coast of the southern region, and Bangkok and its vicinity. Flash floods and mudslides are expected in some areas due to accumulated rainfall. Waves in the upper Andaman Sea are expected to intensify. Small boats should stay ashore, and coastal residents should exercise extra caution.

As for Typhoon “KAJIKI,” the name given by Japan means “beautiful sea fish,” and it is the 13th typhoon of the year, according to the Tokyo Typhoon Warning Center (RSMC) in Japan.
