Tropical Storm Matmo Expected to Intensify, Heavy Rains Predicted for Central and Eastern Regions

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has announced that the Central and Eastern regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity, will continue to experience heavy rainfall in certain areas.

According to Thai News Agency, the department has warned residents to be vigilant of the potential dangers associated with the heavy rains. The precipitation is being influenced by southerly and southeasterly winds affecting the Northeastern, Eastern, and Central regions, as well as the Gulf of Thailand. Additionally, a weak southwest monsoon is currently prevailing over the Andaman Sea and western Thailand.

For maritime regions, wave heights in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are currently around 1 meter, with areas experiencing thunderstorms seeing waves rise above 2 meters. Mariners have been advised to navigate with caution and avoid areas prone to thunderstorms.

Furthermore, the tropical storm “MATMO,” located in the upper South China Sea, is forecasted to strengthen into a typhoon. The storm is expected to
bypass Thailand, instead moving past Hainan Island in China, entering the Gulf of Tonkin, and making landfall in northern Vietnam between October 5-6. The progression of the storm will not impact Thailand directly.
