Two Heirs Compete for Sisaket District 5 MP Seat in By-Election

Sisaket: The Sisaket by-election in District 5 is witnessing intense rivalry as two heirs from prominent families vie for the MP position. The Pheu Thai Party has nominated Ms. Phurika Sommai, daughter of the late Mr. Amorntep Sommai, to take over her father’s legacy. In contrast, the Bhumjaithai Party is fielding Ms. Jintawan Traisaranakul, daughter of Mr. Thira Traisaranakul, a seasoned former MP for Sisaket.

According to Thai News Agency, today marked the inaugural day of registration for the Sisaket District 5 by-election. This election is necessitated by the demise of Mr. Amorntep Sommai from a chronic illness on June 27. The Khun Han District Office, the designated registration venue, was bustling with activity as supporters and party executives gathered.

The candidates, Ms. Phurika and Ms. Jintawan, were joined by significant political figures such as Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, and Mr. Surawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports and Secretary-General of the Pheu Thai Party, who came to show their support.

Mr. Surawong stated that Pheu Thai’s strategy hinges on determination and commitment, with former Prime Minister Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra offering his assistance in the campaign. Ms. Phurika expressed her readiness and dedication to public service, focusing on economic, agricultural, and drug-related issues. She emphasized her commitment to honesty and action in her campaign.

On the other hand, Ms. Jintawan from the Bhumjaithai Party highlighted her five-year experience working with local villagers. With a brief campaign period of 26 days, she plans to focus on village-level engagements, aiming to build on existing initiatives while introducing new projects.

The Election Commission conducted a draw to assign candidate numbers, resulting in Ms. Phurika receiving number 1 and Ms. Jintawan number 2. Both candidates immediately embarked on their campaign trails, engaging with the community and seeking voter support through market visits and parade vehicles throughout Khun Han District.
