Two More Bodies Recovered in Pang Ung Landslide, Death Toll Rises to Seven

Chiang mai: Officials utilizing K9 dogs in the search for missing persons from a landslide in Ban Pang Ung, Mae Chaem District, Chiang Mai Province, have uncovered two additional bodies, raising the total number of fatalities to seven, with two individuals still unaccounted for.

According to Thai News Agency, soldiers from the 5th Special Forces Regiment, alongside soldiers from the 32nd Mobile Development Unit, a rescue team, volunteers, and four K9 dogs-Naree Sinuan, Lily, and Sahara-have been actively searching for missing individuals. The dogs, trained in rescue operations, previously participated in the search and rescue efforts following the collapse of the State Audit Office building. The search commenced in Pang Oung Village, located in a valley in Mae Suek Subdistrict, Mae Chaem District, five days after the mudslide. Efforts have been challenged by a debris and mud pile exceeding one meter in height, despite the hopes held by relatives of the missing persons.

The search team successfully discovered the bodies of a 25-year-old Shan woman and a 6-year-old boy buried beneath the mud. This tragic landslide has now resulted in seven confirmed deaths, with two individuals still missing, 16 injured, and hundreds of homes damaged.
