Bangkok: The United States hopes that Thailand will immediately release Cambodian soldiers. A senior U.S. State Department official said Monday that the United States expects Thailand to work with Cambodia to immediately begin the release of 18 Cambodian soldiers after the two countries’ leaders signed an updated ceasefire agreement on Sunday, witnessed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to Thai News Agency, the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, indicated that the US expectation is that the process involving all commitments related to the deal will begin as soon as it is signed. The agreement, known as the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord, was signed by Thailand and Cambodia. The accord mandates both countries to cease all hostilities and collaborate to foster good neighborly relations.
