Bangkok: Deputy Government Spokesperson Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan has announced the implementation of four urgent measures to address the ongoing crisis at the Thai-Cambodian border. These measures aim to manage commodity prices, promote trade, support loans, and expand markets.

According to Thai News Agency, the government, through the Ministry of Commerce, has instructed the Commerce Department in the seven provinces bordering Cambodia to closely monitor essential goods’ prices. This step is to prevent shortages and deter opportunistic price hikes. Additionally, the government is expediting the procurement of goods to alleviate the difficulties faced by local residents, under the initiative “Thai Made, Thai Use, Thai Help Thai.”

The policy includes four key measures: controlling product prices and increasing distribution points, connecting markets and expanding trade opportunities abroad, maintaining market share in Cambodia while seeking new markets in the ASEAN region, and supporting low-interest loans and debt repayment suspension for affected entrepreneurs.

In addition, product sales activities are being organized in border areas, and export connectivity is being enhanced through border trade fairs and events like the “Thai Fruits Festival.” Collaboration with Thailand Post aims to assist in fruit distribution to destination markets. Businesses are being provided with alternative transport routes information to mitigate the impact of border checkpoint operations. Low-interest loan measures are being expedited through SME D Bank and EXIM Bank to boost liquidity for businesses in the affected border provinces.

“The government is committed to strengthening the domestic economy through the ‘Thais make, Thais use, Thais help Thais’ approach,” Ms. Sasikarn emphasized. “By managing product prices, supporting entrepreneurs, and opening new markets, we aim to ensure that all Thais will overcome this situation with confidence.”
