Using electric vehicle can save cost up to Rp1.5 mln: Deputy minister

The community could save their operational cost around Rp1 million to Rp1.5 million per year by using electric vehicles, estimating that the people buy about six litres of fuel for their conventional vehicles each week.

First Deputy Minister of State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) Pahala Nugraha Mansury made the statement while reviewing the electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLU) at state-run electricity provider PT PLN (Persero)’s Southern Bali Customer Service Implementation Unit, Denpasar City, Bali Province, on Sunday.

The electric vehicles utilization program is one of five SOEs Ministry’s initiatives to implement energy transition and build an electric vehicle ecosystem, he added.

“Thus, the people get the benefits, and so does the government (since the program reduce the subsidy burden). Moreover, it can reduce emissions and PLN as the electricity provider will also get the benefit because the demand for electricity will certainly increase,” the deputy minister said.

He has expected that the electric vehicle infrastructure and production facilities in Denpasar City can be improved, considering that currently Indonesia’s capability to produce electric motorcycles is still inadequate.

Hence, the government will continue to encourage all interested parties to involve in developing the Electric Vehicle Battery Swapping Station (BSS), he has ensured

He assessed that the construction of the SPKLU in Denpasar City highly facilitate the public in using electric vehicles, since the payment for the service is very easy and it can be accessed through PLN Mobile app.

There are three types of SPKLUs, namely medium charging, fast charging, and ultra-fast charging.

For the implementation of 2022 G20 Summit, PLN has established a total of 66 SPKLUs to support the operation of 936 electric cars, 30 electric buses, and 290 electric motorcycles used during the activity. The summit is estimated to be hosted in Nusa Dua, Badung District, Bali Province, on November 15-16, 2022.

President Director of PT PLN Darmawan Prasodjo said that his party had collaborated with various parties in building the SPKLUs.

“Since we do not have access to strategic locations to establish the SPKLUs, we cooperate with other parties such as banks, offices, malls, and coffee shops,” he added.
