Varawut Criticizes Government Policies for Lack of Comprehensive Ministry Coverage

Bangkok: In his inaugural debate as an opposition figure, Varawut Silpa-archa, leader of the Chartthaipattana Party, extended support to Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul before criticizing the government for drafting policies that do not encompass all ministries. Varawut expressed concerns that this oversight could hinder ministers in executing their responsibilities, emphasizing the need for a change in thought and approach to achieve different results, irrespective of the time frame.

According to Thai News Agency, Varawut, a party-list Member of Parliament, highlighted the importance of interconnected and integrated policies to address multiple crises, including economic, social, and environmental security. He urged the Prime Minister to develop a comprehensive action plan through legislative amendments and infrastructure planning for Thailand’s future. He stressed that policy writing should be inclusive of all ministries to ensure effective governance and implementation by civil servants.

Varawut also addressed the rapid technological changes affecting the world, urging the government to adapt its thinking and methods to lead Thailand through these transformations. He emphasized the necessity of aligning the civil service and government agencies with the evolving global landscape to enhance Thailand’s competitiveness on the international stage.

On economic matters, Varawut concurred with the Prime Minister’s view on the need to increase income and reduce expenses for citizens. However, he stressed that the government must also focus on enhancing its revenue, suggesting measures like amending tax laws to collect full taxes from online advertising platforms like YouTube. He also discussed the importance of reducing government expenses by ensuring a healthy population, which would allow the redirection of healthcare funds towards other developmental areas.

Varawut pointed out Thailand’s demographic challenges and proposed strategies to support vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and the disabled. He recommended extending the retirement age and incorporating artificial intelligence to counter the declining workforce. He advocated for an education system aligned with the nation’s economic structure, preparing students for entrepreneurial roles rather than just employment.

Addressing constitutional matters, Varawut referenced the legacy of the 1997 Constitution, urging the government to consider the Chartthaipattana Party’s approach as a foundation for drafting a new constitution. He called for the continuation and adjustment of policies that have positively impacted people’s lives, reinforcing the need for innovative thinking and methods to achieve different outcomes.

Additionally, Varawut highlighted the significance of sustainable tourism and high-quality exports to boost Thailand’s economy without harming natural resources. He urged the government to implement strict measures to preserve these resources and proposed incorporating ESG standards across various ministries to enhance the country’s global competitiveness.
