Vietnam and Denmark Advance Toward Sustainable Development and Green Transition

Copenhagen – Vietnamese Ambassador to Denmark Luong Thanh Nghi has confirmed the increasingly practical and effective development of relations between Vietnam and Denmark since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1971 and a comprehensive partnership in 2013. Ahead of Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan’s official visit to Denmark next week, the Ambassador underscored the deepening cooperation in politics, diplomacy, economy, environment, and strategic fields such as energy and sustainable development.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the recent online talks between the Prime Ministers of both countries and the approval of a joint declaration to establish the Vietnam-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership mark a significant step toward Vietnam’s sustainable development and a joint commitment to tackling climate change.

The Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark’s visit to Vietnam in November 2022 highlighted energy cooperation, resulting in 14 Memorandums of Understanding in various sectors. Bilateral trade turnover has nearly doubled over the past decade, with Danish investments in Vietnam reaching significant figures, including Lego Group’s carbon-neutral plant and Pandora’s renewable energy project. Denmark’s large enterprises in Vietnam are actively pursuing green transformation, aligning with the Danish Government’s sustainability criteria.

The Ambassador also noted the effectiveness of Strategic Sector Cooperation between the two nations, with progress in environment, agriculture, healthcare, education, and statistics. Vietnam and Denmark continue to support each other in multilateral forums, reflecting the high political trust and Denmark’s positive view of Vietnam’s foreign policy.

The upcoming visit by Vice President Xuan is pivotal as it coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-Denmark comprehensive partnership and follows the establishment of their Green Strategic Partnership. The visit aims to reaffirm the strong relationship between the two countries, highlight their commitment to green transformation, and signal Vietnam’s dedication to providing a favorable environment for foreign investors, including those from Denmark.
