Hanoi – The Vietnam-China Friendship Association (VCFA) held its 7th National Congress for the 2023-2028 term on November 25 in Hanoi, marking a significant step in fostering bilateral ties between the two countries.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the event received commendations from prominent Vietnamese leaders. General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong, President Vo Van Thuong, and Truong Thi Mai, a member of the Political Bureau and Chairwoman of the Organisation Commission of the CPV’s Central Committee, sent flower baskets to congratulate the congress.

In her speech, Mai underscored the impact of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit to China in October 2022. She emphasized that further strengthening and deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China is crucial for peace, stability, and development both regionally and globally. This approach aligns with the aspirations and interests of the people of both nations.

Mai commended the VCFA for its achievements in the previous term, recognizing its significant role in people-to-people diplomacy and its overall contribution to Vietnam’s foreign affairs. The association has been instrumental in bolstering friendship, enhancing mutual understanding and trust, and promoting cooperative endeavors that benefit the peoples of Vietnam and China. These efforts have laid a positive social groundwork for friendly and cooperative relations between the two parties and countries.

Highlighting the need for innovation and improved operational efficiency in the new term, Mai called for attention to nurturing a younger generation of members within the VCFA. Echoing these sentiments, Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Xiong Bo noted that advancing China-Vietnam relations relies heavily on the support and participation of both Chinese and Vietnamese people, with the friendship associations playing a crucial role.

The 7th term Executive Committee of the VCFA, consisting of 73 members, elected Nguyen Hoang Anh, a member of the CPV Central Committee and Chairman of the Commission for State Capital Management at Enterprises, as its president.
