Vietnam-Laos Special Relationship a Top Priority, Says Prime Minister Chinh

Hanoi, November 23 – Vietnam’s Prime Minister, Pham Minh Chinh, has emphasized the country’s commitment to its special relationship with Laos during a meeting with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith in Hanoi on November 22. Chinh stated that Vietnam prioritizes this relationship above all and is dedicated to supporting Laos in developing an independent economy and skilled workforce. The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of enhancing economic ties and sharing development strategies.

According to Vietnam News Agency, Kommasith relayed greetings from Lao leaders and praised the strong bond between the two countries. He acknowledged Vietnam’s significant support in Laos’ national independence and ongoing development efforts. The leaders agreed on the solid state of their political relations and noted progress in areas like defense, security, economy, culture, and education. Chinh urged for a quick review of cooperation fields to advance key joint projects and elevate the bilateral relationship.

He suggested that both countries should work closely to implement high-level delegation exchanges and important cooperation mechanisms, including the 46th Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee meeting. Chinh also affirmed Vietnam’s support for Laos in its upcoming role as the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024. Kommasith discussed the outcomes of the Vietnam-Laos foreign ministerial-level consultation and emphasized continued coordination on regional and international issues.
