Hanoi, Vietnam – Approximately 700 Vietnamese citizens in Myanmar are currently in temporarily safe locations amid the complex security situation in some northern states of the country, announced Pham Thu Hang, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on November 23. This statement was made during the ministry’s regular press conference in Hanoi, in response to inquiries about the safety of Vietnamese nationals in Myanmar.
According to Vietnam News Agency, following the escalation of the situation in late October, the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar was directed to coordinate with Myanmar authorities to ensure the safety and basic needs of Vietnamese citizens. This included facilitating their movement out of conflict zones. The Ministry, along with Vietnamese representative agencies in Myanmar and China, has been actively coordinating and sharing information with other countries that have citizens in the region. They have also requested assistance from Chinese authorities in protecting Vietnamese nationals. Hang affirmed the ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of Vietnamese citizens and the implementation of evacuation plans. She added that the Ministry will continue to monitor the situation closely, maintain communication with Vietnamese citizens in refugee areas, and be ready to take necessary measures to ensure their safe return.
