Paris: Kunlavut Vitidsant, popularly known as "View," moved closer to defending his world title after advancing to the quarterfinals of the 2025 Badminton World Championships in France.
According to Thai News Agency, in the men's singles round 3, View, who is currently ranked world number 3, faced off against Alvi Farhan from Indonesia, ranked world number 23. This was their second encounter following their match at the Victor China Open last month, where View emerged victorious. In a closely contested match, View secured his win with scores of 21-18, 18-21, and 22-20, advancing to the final 8 where he will meet Jonathan Christie from Indonesia, the world number 5.
In another men's singles match, Anders Antonsen from Denmark, ranked world number 2, faced Toma Junior Popov from France, ranked world number 15. Antonsen continued his winning streak against Popov, securing a 2-1 victory with scores of 21-6, 20-22, and 21-19. He will now face Chou Tien Chen from Taiwan, ranked world number 9, in the next round.
In the women's singles, Chen Yu Fei from China, ranked world number 4, easily defeated Nguyen Thuy Linh from Vietnam, ranked world number 22, in just 32 minutes. With scores of 21-10 and 21-9, Chen advances to the next round where she will compete against Pornpawee Chochuwong from Thailand, ranked world number 6.
Meanwhile, "May Sai" Supanida Ketthong from Thailand, ranked world number 11, faced a defeat against Akane Yamaguchi from Japan, ranked world number 5. May Sai lost in straight games, 11-21 and 17-21, marking her sixth consecutive loss to Yamaguchi. Akane will now go on to face Han Yue from China, ranked world number 3.
