Volunteers Provide Free Transportation for Public Paying Respects at Sanam Luang

Bangkok: Volunteers mobilized a fleet of vehicles, including buses, vans, tuk tuks, and motorcycles, to offer free transportation services to the public entering Sanam Luang. This initiative is aimed at facilitating those who wish to pay their respects before the portrait of Her Majesty the Queen Mother.

According to Thai News Agency, a large number of volunteer drivers have joined forces to ensure smooth transport for visitors throughout the day. The vehicles, including motorcycle taxis, buses, and tuk tuks, are being used to shuttle people to and from Sanam Luang, complementing the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority’s (BMTA) free bus routes. These routes connect the bus station and eight key points to the site.

A motorcycle taxi driver shared his experience of providing services to over 10 people. He actively approaches individuals dressed in all black, who are likely attendees, to offer them a ride. The service has been particularly beneficial for elderly visitors unfamiliar with the area. Many passengers have offered to pay fares, but the driver insists on providing free service during this period, even adjusting his usual evening operating hours.

At the site, people continued to arrive at Sanam Luang to pay their respects before the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, displayed at the Sahathai Samakhom Pavilion in the Grand Palace. Visitors were able to pass through the screening points and waiting tents smoothly, allowing them to pay their respects without delays.
