VP allocates aid for Islamic schools affected by Cianjur quake

Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has provided aid for Islamic boarding schools that were damaged in the earthquake that struck Cianjur district, West Java, in November 2022.

“This is assistance from Baznas (Amil Zakat National Agency) for the reconstruction of 69 Islamic boarding schools impacted by the Cianjur earthquake,” he said at the Al-Bahjah Islamic Boarding School in Cijedil village, Cugenang sub-district, Cianjur district, West Java, on Wednesday.

Each school will receive Rp50 million (around US$3,210) in aid.

“One of those impacted are Islamic boarding schools, whose entire construction will be carried out by the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry,” he informed.

According to the head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati, who was also present during Amin’s visit to the school, the buildings of the Islamic boarding school are not earthquake-resistant yet.

“These have not been designed to be earthquake-resistant, so the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry recommends rebuilding them,” she said.
