Bangkok: Wan Nor, the Speaker of the Thai House of Representatives, is set to visit the Thai-Cambodian border area on August 10th. During this visit, he aims to reiterate Thailand’s commitment to peace and address accusations from Cambodia.
According to Thai News Agency, Wan Nor emphasized his stance against what he called Cambodia’s misleading claims about Thailand initiating conflict and using chemical weapons. He stated that the Thai Parliament has a clear position on maintaining peace and protecting citizens and soldiers. He also highlighted the necessity of clarifying the truth to international organizations and parliaments worldwide.
Mr. Wan Muhammad Nor Matha, the Speaker, addressed the situation following claims made by the Cambodian parliamentary speaker at recent international meetings. He mentioned that these claims were inconsistent with the facts and asserted that Thailand was not the instigator of the conflict. Instead, he accused Cambodia of slandering the Thai military by firing at civilian areas, resulting in casualties.
He further stated that the Thai Parliament is committed to preserving peace and minimizing impact on border residents. The military’s efforts are focused on avoiding harm to civilians and ensuring the safety of soldiers stationed at the border.
On August 10th, Mr. Wan Muhammad Nor plans to visit the border area to get updates on the situation after recent ceasefire negotiations. He will also distribute essential supplies to the army, donated by the public. In recognition of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s upcoming birthday, he intends to offer merit-making services to border soldiers and civilians. Additionally, he will visit hospitalized soldiers and civilians in Nakhon Ratchasima Province later that day.
